Clearly, pricing and valuation have become a significant issue for the hedge fund industry, and we believe that its significance is likely to increase—particularly as it relates to funds that trade strategies and instruments that are particularly prone to the types of problems we discuss here.
But we believe that a set of practices long standard in other parts of the financial sector can mitigate losses and prevent problems, at least in many cases. These represent the hedge fund industry’s best chance at avoiding a damagingly public black eye.”
