“Expectancy is one of the core principles of successful trading. I believe that if you don’t understand and pay attention to it, you will be trading blindly. Your account will blow up. And since your psychology is so important to successful trading, it should be obvious that you should only trade systems that “fit” you.

This was yet another simple concept, it seemed, but much harder to define for me in practice. It took me quite a while to figure out what was going to fit me. In addition, what I thought would fit me initially, wouldn’t fit me now.

I learned somewhat by trial and error what was going to work after I made my transition to full-time trading and money management. I feel that I have defined it well and am very comfortable with how I’ve designed my trading and money management business.

Trading in a way that fits you is very important. As I eventually found out, what I initially thought would work when I was still employed actually didn’t end up working that well. Even after I made the transition to full-time trading, things still weren’t quite working out.

It wasn’t until I really decided who I wanted to be as a trader/money manager and determined what kind of trading systems I wanted to employ to meet my Big Picture analysis that what would “fit” me became apparent.

Of course, everyone has to start somewhere to define his “fit.” You really have to think through it otherwise, you’re simply asking for a lot of unnecessary frustration and headache.”
